Listed below are some suggestions that may assist in preparing and presenting an appeal before the SDAB hearing:

  • Contact the Authority to obtain information about the development, subdivision or order.
  • Ask neighbours affected by the development to attend the hearing and speak to the Board or to write letters in support of the appeal.
  • Write down the reasons for the appeal so that the presentation to the Board will be complete, clear, concise and logical.
  • Have photographs, illustrative material and well-prepared drawings available.
  • Limit the presentation to planning related matters.
  • To become familiar with the appeal process, parties may wish to attend a SDAB hearing before their particular appeal will be heard.
  • Citizens often represent themselves; however, they may wish to seek professional advice or have someone else present their case.

Note: An overhead projector and VCR are available for presentations.
