Safe Driving Quiz

  1. You are driving in the left-hand lane down a three-lane, one-way street in the downtown core, and you hear sirens and see lights flashing behind you. A quick check in the mirror shows an emergency vehicle quickly approaching in the left lane. Do you:

    1. Stop in the left lane and allow the emergency vehicle to go around you.
    2. Attempt to turn towards the nearest curb in order to avoid the vehicle's path.
    3. Speed up to avoid the situation altogether.

  2. You are the first car stopped at an intersection, waiting on red. An ambulance with lights flashing approaches on your right side. The vehicle will be crossing directly in front of you. In this situation, you should:

    1. Remain in your lane.
    2. Make room by moving out of the way.
    3. When the light turns green, continue on your way.

  3. Provincial law states that drivers should pull over to the closest curb when confronted with an emergency vehicle situation. If a situation arose where you were not immediately aware of an approaching emergency vehicle, but noticed other drivers in front of you turning to the left-hand side, you should:

    1. Ignore it.
    2. Follow suit, and turn to the left-hand side and stop.
    3. Move over to the right curb.

  4. Drivers fail to notice emergency vehicles and subsequently cause collisions mainly because of:

    1. Loud music.

  5. The penalty for failing to yield right-of-way to emergency vehicles in Calgary is:

  6. When dealing with emergency vehicles, in any case, you should:

    1. Always move over to the right.
    2. Always pull over to the curb and clear a path.
    3. Always remain in your designated lane.

  7. On undivided highways, the basic rule is to pull over to the right curb. But, on divided highways, you should generally:

    1. Pull over to the right curb.
    2. Pull over to the nearest curb.
    3. Pull over to the left curb.

  8. If traffic is bumper-to-bumper and you cannot pull over to the curb, you should:
