Security Clearance Unit
The services provided by the Security Clearance Unit include police information checks, information on applying for a pardon and fingerprinting services.

Police information checks and fingerprinting
A police information check and/or fingerprints are often required for employment, volunteering, immigration and U.S. waiver purposes.
To request a police information check and/or fingerprinting, you must visit the Security Clearance Unit in person. Bring two pieces of government-issued identification, one of which must have a photograph.
Photo identification includes:
- Driver's licence
- Learner's licence
- Passport
- Citizenship Card
- Firearms Acquisition Licence/Possession Only Licence/Possession Acquisition Licence
If you do not have one of these you can obtain a photo identification card from any motor vehicle registry.
Examples of identification without photos are:
- Birth Certificate
- Alberta Health Care Card
- Social Insurance Card
Fees:
- $30.00 (G.S.T. included) for a Police Information Check
- $25.00 (G.S.T. included) for fingerprints
Methods of payment include cash, debit, Visa and Mastercard. A police information check is issued to the applicant by mail upon completion.
Volunteers
If you are a volunteer, please check with your agency for specific handling policies or arrangements with the Calgary Police Service. If your agency is registered with the Calgary Police Service, your police information check can be processed by mail for a cost of $5.00 (G.S.T. Included). Contact your agency or organization for more information.
Security Guard Fees
Fees for Security Guards are $55.00 which include:
- $30.00 (G.S.T. included) for a Police Information Check, and
- $25.00 (G.S.T. included) for fingerprints
Security Guards must attend our office on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between the hours of 7:30 am -- 3:00 pm.
Pardon applications
A local police check is required when applying for a pardon from the National Parole Board. A police check must be obtained from every police jurisdiction in which the applicant has lived for the last five years.
You must visit the Security Clearance Unit in person with the Local Police Records Check form from the Pardon Application Guide and bring two pieces of government-issued identification, one of which must have a photograph.

The local police record check is issued to the applicant by registered mail in two to three weeks.
