Direct Entry Officer Program
Effective immediately – Calgary Police Service has initiated a Direct Entry Officer Program (DEO) and is actively seeking prospective applicants with previous policing experience. Minimum DEO applicant criteria
- Must have 2 years previous policing experience, including paid recruit training through an accredited Canadian police training facility.
- Currently employed (or employed within one year) as a police officer with a Canadian police agency (including RCMP, provincial, municipal or regional police agencies)
- In good standing with their current police agency and free and clear of any ongoing internal investigations or disciplines.
DEO Application process
- Submit complete application package including PARE, drivers abstract, vision report, 1st Aid and level C CPR
- Submit a regular applicant PDF and an Experienced Officer PDF (Must have both)
- Submit most recent 2 years of developmental assessments and include a detailed list of any in-service training completed to date with the application form.
- Complete a panel interview, polygraph, psychological testing and background investigation conducted by CPS.
DEO Orientation program
- Upon acceptance into the DEO program, the officer will undergo a minimum of 2 weeks orientation and certification followed by a 12 week field training phase.
- DEO candidates will serve an18 month probationary period.
DEO Remuneration
Officers entering the Calgary Police Service through the DEO program will be compensated in accordance with their experience by recieving equivalent salary, benefits and vacation time as a CPS officer with similar experience, to a maximum of 4 yrs completed service.
- DEO candidates will be eligible to enter the Calgary Police Service commensurate with their experience up to and including 1st class constable rank and corresponding benefits. For additional details, see Article 6.02 of the CPA collective agreement.
