Name the Horse Contest
The newest member of the Calgary Police Service Mounted Unit
was named Wednesday, June 14, 2006. The name was chosen by children from the
Between Friends Club from the top two names voted on by Calgary children in
the Calgary
Police
Service's "Name
the Horse" on-line
contest. The children from the Between Friends Club were also made police deputies
for the day by Chief Jack Beaton.
Spirit is the newest horse to join the Calgary Police Service Mounted Unit.
He came to us in the fall of 2005. Spirit is a young and very handsome horse.
Still growing he is expected to top out at over 17 hands high. He is a
very brave and spirited horse who enjoys being in the lead. He shows great
potential for crowd control situations - especially as the lead horse. Spirit
is at the start of his career with the Calgary Police Service Mounted Unit
and is expected to have a long and illustrious career with us.
Questions, comments or inquiries should be directed to the Calgary Police Public Affairs and Media Relations Unit (please see our "Contact Us" page for more information).
