Junior Police Academy
Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a police officer? The Calgary Police Service's Junior Police Academy gives kids from 12 to 16 years of age the opportunity to find out!
Kids in the Junior Police Academy get "up close" looks at the HAWCs helicopters, the police firearms range, the outdoor pursuit driving track - and sessions with the Drug Unit, Crime Scene Unit, Communications Unit, Tactical Team, Traffic Unit, and more. Kids experience an inside look into the life of a Calgary police officer.
The week culminates in the kids marching on parade and receiving their certificates.
The Junior Police Academy runs three times a year, with one session offered during the spring Easter school break and two during the summer. The spring break session reserves 15 spots for members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary, with the remaining 15 spots open to kids who register early and whose names are selected 2 months before the Academy begins. The August session sets aside 15 spots for members of Big Brothers and Big Sisters, with the other 15 awarded to kids selected .
