Our Mission: "To optimize public safety in the City of Calgary"
Blue Hawks Basketball Program
The Calgary Police Service has long valued Community Service, Fitness and Healthy Living amongst its officers. To this end the Service has put together an amazing group of female police officer basketball players called the “Blue Hawks”. Most of the officers on the team have played basketball at the college or university level. Several of the members of this all-star team also play Division One basketball in the Calgary Women’s Basketball League. All of the officers have gone on to successful careers as officers with the Calgary Police Service. For their efforts, they consistently finish the season in the top three, most recently winning the City Championship for the second time in three years.
As part of the Calgary Police Service’s ongoing commitment to the community, the Blue Hawks will be attending high schools across the city, playing exhibition games between senior girl’s teams and the Calgary Police Service’s Blue Hawks. At a coach’s request, the Blue Hawks will also conduct a mini-camp where the Blue Hawks may be able to pass on some new plays and strategies to the girls. At the end of the day, all participants in the program will receive a souvenir T-shirt provided by the Calgary Police Service’s Cops for Kids Program, to take home with them. After a one hour session, we would like to play an exhibition game between your senior girl’s team and our Blue Hawks. It is also requested that the host team provide a referee for the event.
The Calgary Police Service is hopeful this initiative will generate more female interest in policing as a career. We are also hopeful the interaction with the high school community will demonstrate the human side of police officers and create trust and cooperation between youth and the police.
For more information or to request a session with the Blue Hawks please contact the Program Coordinator Sergeant Mark Colcy at mcolcy@calgarypolice.ca or 206-8534.
