Our Mission: "To optimize public safety in the City of Calgary"
District 8
Crime Prevention Initiatives
District 8 initiates and maintains many crime prevention programs within the community. The needs of the district determine where crime prevention efforts are based. The Calgary Police Service is dedicated philosophically and operationally to the concept of community-based policing. By working with communities in District 8, the Service can reduce crime and maintain safe and secure communities.
Business Liaison Unit
The Business Liaison Unit's goal is to establish and maintain regular contact between the business community and the Calgary Police Service to address crime prevention and safety needs. Volunteers and officers collect information about each business and maintain a database that includes contact information. This data is useful for officers if an incident or disturbance is reported.
Members of the unit discuss problems with business owners and managers and share possible solutions for common problems businesses face, such as loitering, vandalism and shoplifting.
Volunteering in District 8
Community volunteers are a vital part of the Calgary Police Service. They commit their time and expertise to assist officers through a variety of roles, including handling inquires from the public and working on crime prevention initiatives.
Volunteers are provided with ongoing training to ensure they can assist the citizens of District 8 in a knowledgeable and professional manner.
