Crime Prevention through Social Development

Social Development is achieved through working with Communities in Action for Children and Youth (CIACY) by introducing Developmental Assets Approach. Developmental Assets are the positive influences for youth to be engaged in their own community and for adults to deal with youth from a strength based perspective versus treating youth as a deficit.

Crime Prevention through Social Development (CPSD) is the theory that people are more likely to engage in criminal activity if certain social factors are present, and aims to eliminate these negative influences. These factors include poverty, inadequate living conditions, family breakdown, racism, and alcohol and substance abuse.

The officers of District 7 are involved in various community programs to combat the negative influence of these factors.
