The growth of South Calgary presents unique and diverse opportunities for the officers in District 6. Our district includes a broad range of challenges in terms of workload, including large residential communities, major traffic arteries, light and heavy industrial areas, small businesses, shopping malls and a considerable stretch of the Light Rail Transit system. The composition of our district units and the deployment of our personnel are structured to enable us, in conjunction with all of the communities we serve, to effectively address the community crime and safety issues which come with a large and diverse urban environment.

Community-based policing is the cornerstone of all of our efforts. For example, District 6 boasts the largest contingent of community volunteers of any policing district in Calgary. Our volunteers assist us in providing excellence in service through their work in our Community Operated Police Stations in BraeCentre and Riverbend-Ogden, in our police outposts in Chinook Centre and Southcentre malls, and through a host of programs including our Business Liaison Program. Additionally, we have special groups of officers, supervised by detectives, who work on residential and industrial break-ins, and on our LRT lines, to keep our business communities and public transport corridors safe.

Each of the five (5) zones in our district is supervised by a Community Team Sergeant, and staffed by a contingent of nineteen patrol officers and a Community Liaison Officer (CLO). These Community Teams are responsible for working collaboratively with their communities to identify and address crime and safety issues unique to the geographic area they serve, and to deal proactively with emerging crime patterns and trends before they can gain a foothold in our area.

We look forward to continuing to work with our citizens, businesses and schools to ensure that District 6 remains a safe place in which to live, work and raise our children.
