District 2 Quick Links
Unlike some other districts, District 2 does not have a community station; however, a group of dedicated volunteers assist officers with their duties.
District 2 is home base for:
- six detectives assigned to the General Investigation Unit,
- six officers providing counter service at the District 2 office,
- three community teams of officers who patrol the 3 zones and respond to emergency calls,
- three civilian support staff,
- two civilian mechanics who maintain and service police vehicles for Districts 2 and 7,
- four commissionaires.
Working with the community to solve problems
District 2 is made up of 34 diverse communities with a population of approximately 120,000. Significant growth is anticipated in the west end of the district in the next five to 10 years. With this growth, greater demands are placed on the officers within the district. I believe that a collaborative and inclusionary approach to problem-solving will lead to innovative and effective crime management and control strategies that will ensure District 2 remains a safe place to live and do business.
The men and women of District 2 embrace community-based policing as the most effective and efficient method of addressing community crime and safety issues. We are committed to the three Ps of policing:
PARTNERSHIP - PREVENTION - PROBLEM-SOLVING
Since April of 2006, District 2 has been conducting a pilot project involving the use of a full-time Mountain Bike Unit (MBU). Over a dozen officers have been assigned to the District 2 MBU. These officers are able to maintain a visible presence in communities while responding quickly to community issues and concerns. They have been patrolling all areas of the District, from parks and green spaces to back alleys and high-traffic roadways.
The ease with which mountain bikes can travel makes them perfect for policing District 2, which has a unique combination of dense inner-city, sprawling parkland and suburban areas. Mountain bikes are an excellent way for officers to interact with the community, while addressing the issues and concerns of our residents.
Please feel free to contact any District 2 officer if you have any comments, questions or concerns about policing issues in your community. We can be reached at (403) 249-7701.
