YES or NO From: The reality of domestic abuse

Answers

1. NO Children who witness violence in their homes are very much affected. They feel alone and often believe the violence is their fault. With help, children can learn to understand their parents' problems and that the violence is not their fault.
2. NO Physical violence against women often starts or increases during pregnancy. This has been known to hurt unborn babies.
3. YES Yelling, swearing and name calling are all emotional or psychological abuse.
4. YES If the woman had a permanent injury as a result of being abused by her husband, the husband could be punished by the court. But if the injury was not permanent, the abuse was ignored by the court.
5. NO Violence can occur in families from any religion or culture and it doesn't matter how much money the family has.
6. NO It is never okay to use violence unless your life or someone else's life is in danger. There are better ways to deal with problems like telling someone how you feel, or byignoring someone who is bothering you. You can also talk to an adult you trust.
7. NO It IS possible for a woman to abuse a man. We know that men are abused, but we are not sure how common it is because most men do not tell anyone if they have been abused.
8. YES Abuse of the elderly or people who are disabled is a significant problem.
