Tickets to this event at the Pengrowth Saddledome are now sold out, but there is still an opportunity for Calgarians to see The Queen and Her Royal Motorcade in downtown Calgary. On Wednesday, May 25, the Royal Motorcade will pass through downtown as it makes it way from the Museum of the Regiments to the Pengrowth Saddledome. Later in the day, the motorcade will again pass through downtown, on the way to the airport departure point. Two prime viewing locations have been designated for well -wishers interested in seeing The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh along the Royal Motorcade route: 1) 1 p.m.: South side of 9 Avenue, between 4 Street SW and 1 Street SE. Please arrive before 1 p.m. as the Royal Motorcade is anticipated to pass by at 1:10 - 1:20 p.m. on its way to the Pengrowth Saddledome. 2) 4:15 p.m.: On the Municipal Plaza and in front of Historic City Hall, on the east side of Macleod Trail, between 7 Avenue and 9 Avenue SE). Please arrive by 4:15 p.m. as the Royal Motorcade is anticipated to pass by at 4:35 - 4:45 p.m. At this viewpoint, the Royal Motorcade will include 27 cars (for Her Majesty and His Royal Highness, The Governor General, and other dignitaries). Royal Visit souvenirs will be available, while supplies last, for well-wishers lining the Royal Motorcade Route at these designated viewing locations. Flags for waving and commemorative Royal Visit buttons and programmes can be picked up, free of charge, at the following times and locations: 1) 12:30 p.m.: In front of Gulf Canada Square (by the Canadian Pacific Railway vintage steam engine), on the south side of 9 Avenue, between 2 Street and 3 Street SW. 2) 4 p.m.: On the Municipal Plaza (in front of the Municipal Building and beside Historic City Hall),on the east side of Macleod Trail at 8 Avenue SE. Members of the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede Promotion Committee, and volunteers, will be handing out the souvenir items. Well-wishers who may already have flags from other events are encouraged to bring them along. The City of Calgary would like to take this opportunity to thank road users and local residents affected by the Royal Motorcade for their patience and understanding. Every effort will be made to keep disruptions to a minimum. The following traffic advisories will be in effect on event day - Wednesday, May 25: * Motorists and transit riders are advised to expect traffic interruptions and delays throughout the day, specifically between 12 noon and 5 p.m.. * A NO PARKING zone will be in effect, along 9 Avenue, from 5 Street SW to 1 Street SE, for the day. * Commuters can avoid delays in the downtown core, and on Deerfoot Trail, by adjusting travel times. Plan your day, and leave downtown before 4 p.m. or depart after 5:15 pm. * Motorists, trucks, and delivery services who regularly use Crowchild Trail, downtown routes, and Deerfoot Trail are encouraged to use Blackfoot Trail, Glenmore Trail, and 16 Avenue, as alternate routes.
