Date: Tue Nov 3 08:50:35 2009 Subject: PA/MRU #09-540 FOURTH MAN CHARGED IN WEAPONS SEIZURE From: Michael Nunn -----BEGIN MD5 ----------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------- CITYBEAT - CITY OF CALGARY PRESS RELEASE ----------------------------------------------------------------- The Calgary Police Service Organized Crime Section has charged a fourth man in connection with a weapons seizure earlier this year. On Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at approximately 2:30 p.m., police were called to the Riverbend area of southeast Calgary on an unrelated matter. While in the area, District 6 patrol officers witnessed five men acting suspiciously in Carburn Park. They were stopped, at which time two of the men were identified as being known to the CPS Gang Unit and were arrested on outstanding warrants. The other three were released pending further investigation. A vehicle associated with one of those arrested was located nearby using K-9 Units to back track to a parking lot. A subsequent search of the vehicle, a silver-coloured GMC Safari van, revealed a number of weapons and body armour, as well as the following: • An HK assault rifle • Two sawed-off shotguns • Two handguns • Four sets of body armour • Bandanas • Gloves • New clothing, including three pairs of new shoes All the weapons were loaded, some with large-capacity magazines. Following further forensic testing, police arrested and charged Wayne HA, 26, and Zachary Megid MIRABACK, 26, of Calgary, with multiple firearms-related charges. Christian Jon NAVOS, 21, of Calgary, turned himself in to police on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009. He has been charged with multiple firearms-related offences. Dang (Danny) NGUYEN, 23, of Calgary, was also charged with multiple firearms-related offences on Wednesday April, 1, 2009.
