Dozens of officers from across North America will compete in numerous events; all looking to rope in a trophy and win bragging rights. This event is open to the public and families are welcome. In support of the Missing Children’s Society of Canada, all proceeds from the rodeo will go toward the agency’s search program, Project: Reunite. In 2008, more than $8,000 was raised during the rodeo. Along with the rodeo, the event includes a children’s carnival, petting zoo, exhibitions, clowns and concessions. An adults-only barn dance featuring Nashville Recording Artist Gord Bamford is scheduled for later in the evening. A one-of-a-kind event, The Calgary Police Rodeo is an amateur competition featuring contestants from Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, as well as American officers from Idaho and Nevada. The rodeo starts at 1 p.m., at the Airdrie Professional Rodeo Grounds, located on Highway 567, five kilometres west of Airdrie. Tickets for the rodeo cost $15, with kids 10 and under free.
