On Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, a member of the Calgary Police
Service was charged by the RCMP in a jurisdiction outside of
Calgary, with one count of common assault arising from a
domestic situation. 

The member, a constable with approximately three years of 
service, has been suspended with pay, pending a fitness for
duty assessment.

As the assault investigation is under RCMP jurisdiction and
this matter is before the courts, the Calgary Police Service
will not be speaking to this incident at this time. 

No further details will be released.

In keeping with standard practice when a member is charged
criminally, a Service investigation will be done.
