At 6:45 PM Wednesday January 28 police responded to a injury
motor vehicle collision on 33 Avenue at the Crowchild Trail
overpass.

Westbound vehicles were stopped for the red light on the east
side of the overpass when the second vehicle back, a Mercedes
Benz suddenly lurched forward and struck the rear end of the
vehicle stopped in front.  This was a low speed contact.  The
Mercedes Benz continued in a NW direction and drove into the
guardrail on the NW quadrant of the intersection.

The driver of the Mercedes,a mid 70's male, was found
unresponsive behind the wheel of the car.  He was transported
to hospital by EMS and is currently in life threatening
condition.  His passenger, a female of older age sustained
non life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital
for assessment.  The driver of the other veicle involved was 
not injured.

Officers of the Traffic Section have been assigned to conduct
the investigation and part of this investigation will be
focused on the possibility that a medical issue contributed
to the collision.
