Date: Tue Jan 6 21:30:23 2009 Subject: PA/MRU #09-011 SHOOTING INCIDENT From: Michael Nunn -----BEGIN MD5 ----------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------- CITYBEAT - CITY OF CALGARY PRESS RELEASE ----------------------------------------------------------------- The City Of Calgary Police Service is investigating a shooting that occurred earlier this evening, Tuesday, Jan. 06, 2009, in the northeast. At approximately 6:50 p.m. police were called to an address in the 100 block of Coral Shores Landing N.E. following reports that shots were fired in the area. Early investigations suggest that two men were exiting a vehicle and were walking towards a home in the area when an unknown suspect or suspects fired in their direction. It is not known at this stage if the suspect or suspects were on foot or in a vehicle. One man received a gunshot wound and has been transported to hospital. He is said to be in a stable condition with non life threatening injuries. A second man, who was not injured, got back into the vehicle and attempted to drive away but got stuck in a snow bank. Early indications suggest that this is a gang-related incident. District 5 GIU are leading the investigation with the assistance of the Gang Unit, Targeted Enforcement Unit and the Calgary Criminal Intelligence Unit. No further information will be available until tomorrow.
