Date: Tue Jul 8 15:27:27 2008 Subject: PA/MRU #08-348 NIGHTTIME RESIDENTIAL BREAK-INS From: Mary Ann Houston -----BEGIN MD5 ----------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------- CITYBEAT - CITY OF CALGARY PRESS RELEASE ----------------------------------------------------------------- The Calgary Police Service is cautioning residents of the communities of Sunnyside and Hillhurst to be vigilant in securing their homes, especially at night, and to be cautious when answering their door to strangers. Since June 16, 2008, a higher than normal number of late -night and early-morning residential break-ins have occurred in the communities of Sunnyside and Hillhurst. In a number of these cases, it is believed that a man entered the homes through the unlocked screen doors or windows of the residences. Residents of these communities should also pay special attention to suspicious persons, especially those who may be canvassing doo-to-door soliciting for donations or providing other services for monetary compensation. Several reports of thieves accessing residents using the pretense of selling something or collecting donations for a cause have been reported as of late. The man in the attached photograph is a person of interest to the Calgary Police Service in relation to some these incidents. If anyone can identify this person, or has any information related to these offences, they are asked to call the Calgary Police Service at 403-266-1234, Det. Treit in District 3 at 403-567-6300, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222 -TIPS (8477). The Calgary Police Service reminds citizens to ensure their homes are always secured, regardless of whether or not their residence is occupied, and to report any suspicious activity immediately to the police.
