The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has confirmed the
identity of a man who died as a result of a shooting
yesterday afternoon.

The Calgary Police Service responded to reports of shots
fired in the 4500 block of Vandergrift Crescent N.W., just
after 2 p.m., on Wednesday, May 7, 2008.

Officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. An 18
-year-old man was transported to hospital, where he later
succumbed to his injuries. A 17-year-old was also treated for
gunshot wounds. He remains in stable condition.

Levan James VAN DER ROSS, 18, died as a result of gunshot
wounds.

This is Calgary’s 10th homicide of 2008.

Investigators do not believe this was a random shooting and
continue to investigate whether the incident was gang
-related.

Police continue to speak with several witnesses.

The Calgary Police Service Major Crimes Section with support
from the Organized Crime Operations Centre are investigating
this incident.
