Date: Wed May 7 18:57:33 2008 Subject: Fire on Falworth Way N.E From: Fire PIO -----BEGIN MD5 ----------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------- CITYBEAT - CITY OF CALGARY PRESS RELEASE ----------------------------------------------------------------- The Calgary Fire Department received multiple calls indicating a working fire in the 100 block of Falworth Way N.E. The call came in at approximately 17:30 and the first arriving fire crew reported flames and smoke pouring from a front window of the home. A second alarm was initiated due to the amount of fire showing. One crew entered the front and another entered the rear of the structure to search for the fire and occupants. Nobody was home at the time of the blaze and the initial fire attack was effective in extinguishing the fire. Despite the quick knockdown, fire crews reported significant smoke damage throughout the home. The fire made its way into the roof and firefighters are now preparing to remove the cellulose insulation (a chemically treated paper product), from the attic. Once a fire has compromised the cellulose insulation, it must be removed using a vacutruck to minimize re-ignition. This process will have firefighters on scene on average three hours to complete. No injuries were reported and the fire is still under investigation. Disaster Services has been notified and will be in contact with the occupants. Approximately fourteen pieces of fire apparatus and thirty one firefighters responded to the incident. -30- Public Contact Information: Jeff Budai Public Information Officer 264-1022 Public Email Contact: 3-1-1contactus@calgary.ca -----END MD5 faf23ec90d73ba175343efe893e501c9-----
