Date: Wed May 7 15:26:33 2008 Subject: Road Closures and Lane Restrictions – Friday, May 9, to Monday, May 12, 2008 From: Citynewsroom -----BEGIN MD5 ----------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------- CITYBEAT - CITY OF CALGARY PRESS RELEASE ----------------------------------------------------------------- Concrete Pour for “The Bow” Development Calgary – Beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 9, the following roads will be closed in addition to the temporary closure of 6 Avenue S.E. between 1 Street S.E. and Centre Street for a massive concrete pour for “The Bow” Development: • 6 Avenue S.W. between Centre Street and 1 Street S.W. • Centre Street between 5 Avenue S.E. and 7 Avenue S.E. • Southbound Centre Street between 4 Avenue S.E. and 5 Avenue S.E. • 5 Avenue S.E. between Centre Street and 1 Street S.E. • A right lane closure on southbound 1 Street S.E. between 5 Avenue S.E. and 6 Avenue S.E. • Two right lane closures on 5 Avenue S.W. between Centre Street and 1 Street S.W. The closures and restrictions are expected to last until 5 a.m. on Monday, May 12. Pedestrian access will be maintained during the closures as follows: • West side of Centre Street between 5 Avenue and 7 Avenue • North side of 5 Avenue between Centre Street and 1 Street S.E. • Access to area businesses Motorists are to observe all traffic controls advising of these closures and lane restrictions. Major delays are expected. Please be advised that the race route for the Sport Chek Mother’s Day Run and Walk will also be closed on Sunday, May 11, from 4 a.m. until 1 p.m. The City of Calgary, Roads, and The Calgary Police Service, have been working with event organizers and the prime contractor for “The Bow” to ensure the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists in the area and to minimize traffic impacts.
