Date: Mon May 5 10:46:02 2008 Subject: Another Calgary Paramedic To Serve Overseas From: EMS Public Information -----BEGIN MD5 ----------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------- CITYBEAT - CITY OF CALGARY PRESS RELEASE ----------------------------------------------------------------- The City of Calgary Emergency Medical Services sees another one of it’s paramedics off to serve his country. Earlier this year, two Calgary paramedics departed for services as Medics in Afghanistan serving with The Canadian Military. On May 7 Alasdair Robertson-More, a paramedic with Calgary, will be deployed to Southeast Asia to provide humanitarian assistance. His vital work will take place in both the Philippines and Vietnam. Alasdair will be deployed on a US Navy ship along with Canadian medical and dental personnel. The ship features full hospital capabilities including emergency, surgery, routine care wards, ICU, dental, lab, and X-ray facility. It has a total of 1000 beds including 50 Emergency and 80 ICU beds. The ship has a full crew complement of about 1200. Last year another US Navy ship was responsible for the deployment and saw nearly 35,000 patients in its 4 month tour. Many of these people lined up at the ports of call for days to try and access medical care that they could not get locally due to either cost or lack of available services. Alasdair’s experience as a paramedic in Calgary will help him deal with the vast number of situations he will encounter on his mission, just as his experience there will further his skills as a paramedic when he returns. Alasdair’s friends and co-workers would like to wish him a safe journey and will keep him in their thoughts during his important work overseas. -30- Public Contact Information: Paul Lapointe, EMT-P Public Education Officer Emergency Medical Services The City of Calgary T 403.538.7606 Public Email Contact: ems.dept@calgary.ca -----END MD5 ddda078d770a543797f47ef345225939-----
