Date: Mon May 5 09:22:09 2008 Subject: Emergency Preparedness Week Launch Today - Monday, May 5 From: Fire PIO -----BEGIN MD5 ----------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------- CITYBEAT - CITY OF CALGARY PRESS RELEASE ----------------------------------------------------------------- What: Calgary Emergency Management will kick off Emergency Preparedness Week (May 4 – 10), Monday, May 5 at a noon hour event in the Bankers Hall Retail Atrium. Where: Bankers Hall, 315 – 8 Avenue SW When: Monday, May 5 12:05 p.m. Why: The theme for the 13th Annual EP Week, “72-hours… is your family prepared?” encourages Calgarians to take steps to plan so they can be self-sufficient for the first 72-hours of an emergency. Not only does this remind us of our responsibility to prepare so we can protect our families in the early stages of an emergency, it enables us to free up first responders so they are able to assist those in most urgent need. Following an address from Fire Chief Bruce Burrell, members of the news media will be able to ask the Chief questions, in his role as Director of the Calgary Emergency Management Agency (formerly, Calgary Disaster Services). Alderman Ric McIver, serving as the Deputy Mayor for the event, will also make a short presentation.
