Date: Thu May 1 22:33:34 2008 Subject: Two alarm fire in the 100 block of Shawglen Rise S.W From: Fire PIO -----BEGIN MD5 ----------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------- CITYBEAT - CITY OF CALGARY PRESS RELEASE ----------------------------------------------------------------- A Calgary Fire Department pump truck could see a column of smoke from blocks away and responded to the incident. The call was dispatched at approximately 19:30 and it took only four minutes for crews to arrive and request a second alarm. A total of two homes were fully involved with fire in the roof area and a third home had significant heat damage to its siding. Calgary Police assisted in the evacuation of four occupants from the middle and east homes and a search confirmed that the occupants of the west house were not home or already evacuated. Although the fire was quite extensive, firefighters had made quick progress on getting the blaze under control. A partial collapse occurred in the east home and forced firefighters to exit the structure but crews already had the fire in that home under control. No injuries were reported and all the occupants have made their own arrangements for accommodations. Fire officials are currently on scene and investigating the incident. No cause or dollar value has been determined at this time. Approximately thirteen pieces of fire apparatus and thirty firefighters responded to the call. -30- Public Contact Information: Jeff Budai Public Information Officer 264-1022 Public Email Contact: 3-1-1contactus@calgary.ca -----END MD5 30be0e4b973a52e5353a57b2b040d022-----
