             CITYBEAT - CITY OF CALGARY PRESS RELEASE

On Thursday May 1st, 2008 at 2:20 hours a 200 Ford F150
pickup truck was proceeding southbound on Macleod Trail South
at the intersection of 86th Avenue SE.  This vehicle drove
head on into the traffic signal standard located on the
center median on the south side of this intersection.

The 54 year old driver of the vehicle was killed on impact. 
The 36 year old passenger sustained serious injuries and was
transported to hospital by Calgary EMS.

This vehicle was being operated in an erratic manner at an
excessive rate of speed prior to colliding with the signal
standard. 

The CPS Traffic Section continues to investigate this
incident.  Anyone with information about this collision is
asked to contact the Calgary Police Service at 266-1234 or
the Traffic Section at 567-4000.
