The Public Safety Center call taker then called back to the number and got a male on the phone who was verbally abusive and swearing at the call taker. The police were advised of the calls and two police units were dispatched to the address to check on the welfare of the occupants. The first police units at the scene, a two person and one person unit, were greeted at the door by a 17 year old male who was very verbally belligerent and would not provide any information as to who or why 911 was called. While this was taking place the officers could see a younger child in the residence and entered to check on their welfare. While speaking with the 17 year old he produced a knife and a struggle ensued with the officers. The officers deployed a conducted energy weapon with no apparent effect and chose to physically restrain the teen to disarm and handcuff him. During this time a third two person unit arrived at the scene to assist. The officers then requested EMS to check the 17 year old and while removing him from the residence he continued to struggle and assaulted the officers using his feet. He was once again physically restrained while officers placed leg restraints and a spit mask on him. There were no adults home at the residence at the time officers arrived and there were no other occupants in the house other than the two youths. EMS was unable to evaluate the 17 teen year old at the scene due to his continued struggling and he was transported to hospital where he was treated and released. The younger child present was not injured. One officer was bitten by the offender during the arrest. The investigation into this 911 hang up call is continuing by 4 District. -30- Public Email Contact: 3-1-1contactus@calgary.ca -----END MD5 63019e28b8703ac979c88e0f1a897ca4-----
